About this diary
The Muck Rack Diary is written by "D.", a solo PR consultant in the United States with about nine years in tech and consumer PR. She spent four years on a Muck Rack seat before cancelling it in the summer of 2026 and rebuilding her outreach on free tools and her own research.
Why anonymous? Clients like to believe their consultant's stack is boring and settled. Every time I've written about tools under my real name, three clients forwarded it to me with "should we be doing this?" Anonymous, the diary can say the unedited things.
Why no replacement tool is named. Because the fastest way to ruin a diary like this is to let it become a testimonial. The moment a vendor's name appears in the "after" column, every number reads as marketing. What D. uses now is a spreadsheet, her inbox, free directories, and discipline. If that changes, the numbers entry changes with it.
Is anyone paying for this? No. Hosting is paid out of pocket. No software company, Muck Rack's competitors included, reviewed, approved, or paid for anything here. If that ever changes, this page changes first.
Why write it at all? When D. was deciding, the search results for Muck Rack pricing and alternatives were mostly vendor landing pages wearing comparison costumes. She wanted the diary she couldn't find: one practitioner, real numbers, no hero worship, no sponsor.
